WALLACE, Idaho — The Wallace High School volleyball team opened its Scenic Idaho Conference season with a four-set victory over Lakeside on Monday at Ron Miller Court. The win improved the Lady Miners’ overall record to 3-5, while Lakeside fell to 2-7.
Wallace controlled the majority of the match, taking the first set 25-15 and the third 25-15. Lakeside managed to steal the second set, 25-22, but Wallace closed out the contest in the fourth frame with a 25-23 score.
Senior Khepri Wood led the offensive effort for Wallace, recording eight kills, seven aces, and three blocks. Senior Kayden Stutzke orchestrated the offense with 23 assists. Freshman Danica Valley also contributed significantly at the service line, tallying four aces.
The Lady Miners will look to build on this momentum when they travel to Clark Fork for their next match tonight. Lakeside heads to Coeur d’Alene to face Coeur du Christ at Holy Family Catholic School later Monday evening.
Sandpoint Falls to Charter in Football Rematch
In football action, the Sandpoint Spartans dropped a decision to Coeur d’Alene Charter at War Memorial Field. The result marked the second loss for Sandpoint against the 5A power this season, following a 3-1 victory by the Spartans two weeks prior.
The game remained tight through the first half, with both teams tied 1-1 at halftime. Despite Sandpoint’s status as the reigning 4A state champion, Coeur d’Alene Charter secured the win, improving its record to 6-2. Sandpoint also sits at 6-2 on the season.
Coeur d’Alene Charter will travel to Liberty Lake this Friday to play Sugar-Salem at the HUB Sports Center.
Kellogg Panthers Extend Intermountain League Lead
The Kellogg Panthers football team defeated the local rival Kellogg Wildcats, extending their dominance in the Intermountain League. The victory improved Kellogg’s overall record to 6-1-1 and its league record to 6-1-1.
The loss dropped the Wildcats to 2-7 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
Coeur d’Alene Dominates Icebreaker Swim Meet
Coeur d’Alene High School claimed both the boys’ and girls’ team titles at the Icebreaker swim meet held Saturday at the University of Idaho Pool. The Cougars posted a boys’ team score of 148, finishing ahead of Sandpoint’s 141 points.
Dawson Cushman contributed two individual victories for Coeur d’Alene, winning the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. Andrew Davis also secured two wins for the Cougars, taking titles in the 500 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
Swimmers from other North Idaho schools also found success on the individual level. John Misner of Post Falls won two races, as did Tillie Sobek of Lake City. Moscow finished third in the boys’ team standings with 69.5 points, while Lake City placed fourth with 68.5 points.
