Shoshone County Reports 64% Turnout as Assessor Race Remains Tight

Shoshone County recorded 64% voter turnout in Tuesday’s general election, an increase of roughly 12 percentage points from the primary. All 14 county precincts reported, though the results remain unofficial pending canvassing and certification.

Republican candidates carried nearly every legislative, statewide and federal race in the county.

County Races

Tami Atkins won the District 2 Shoshone County Board of Commissioners race with 2,749 votes, or 60.18%. Jay L. Huber received 1,816 votes, or 39.75%.

The county assessor contest remained separated by 17 votes. Katie Murray led Robert Savage with 2,296 votes, or 50.19%, compared with Savage’s 2,279 votes, or 49.81%.

The margin is outside Idaho’s threshold for a publicly funded recount, which is five votes or 0.1% of all votes cast, whichever is greater. Savage could request a recount, and Murray’s unofficial lead could change during canvassing.

Julie Hernandez won the county coroner race with 2,486 votes, or 54.57%. Richard “Rick” Smith received 2,070 votes, or 45.43%.

Heather Scott won House Seat A in the county with 69.54%, compared with Birgid Niedenzu’s 30.46%. Dale Hawkins won House Seat B with 68.09%, while Sabine Krier received 31.91%. Scott and Hawkins each held districtwide leads of more than 70% in the reported returns.

Brad Little carried Shoshone County in the governor’s race with 64.40%. Other Republican statewide candidates also led in the county: Scott Bedke received 68.96%, Phil McGrane 69.60%, Brandon D. Woolf 72.17%, Julie Ellsworth 69.78%, Raul Labrador 67.57% and Debbie Critchfield 66.63%.

Statewide returns were based on 36 of 44 localities reporting. Little held 56.49% statewide.
