KELLOGG, Idaho — The Kellogg City Council and Kellogg School District board of trustees have each approved pursuing a memorandum of understanding that could convert part of the district’s Administrative Annex into a civic center and new city hall.
The proposal would place city offices in the west academic wing and library area of the former Kellogg Middle School, which is now called the Administrative Annex. A preliminary concept includes a separate entrance and parking lot on the north side of the building.
Kellogg Police Department operations would move to the proposed civic center under the concept. The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality and Central Shoshone Water District also may be interested in occupying space there.
City Hall has operated from 1007 McKinley Ave. since the mid-2000s. The city leases the west end of that building to Bunker Hill for executive offices, and Bunker Hill holds an option to purchase the full property. That lease-option agreement expires in 2029.
The Administrative Annex currently contains district administrative staff, the technology department, preschool programs, and middle school band and physical education classes.
City officials have indicated they could provide financial assistance for building maintenance, athletic facility improvements and other district funding needs. Trustee John Schroeder said repairs and upgrades needed for the project would take at least two years.
Terry Douglas said the memorandum would establish the priorities and requirements of both parties before a final decision is made. “We’ll see if we can make this work,” Douglas said.
Public Workshop Set
Kellogg School District Board Chair Alexa Griffin said the discussion will continue at a public workshop scheduled for 5 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Kellogg School District Office.
