Federal land managers initiated aerial prescribed burns south of Kellogg, Idaho, as part of the Saint Joe Divide Project. The operation has consumed approximately 1,300 acres so far.
Smoke from the controlled fires may drift into Wallace and the broader Silver Valley. Residents in those areas should anticipate potential air quality impacts while the work continues.
The Forest Service expects operations to proceed through Monday. Several trails in the vicinity remain closed to the public during the burn period for safety reasons.
