Fireworks Incident Damages Trash Can at Pinehurst Elementary School

Pinehurst Police Department is investigating an incident Saturday night at Pinehurst Elementary School in which a box of fireworks ignited and destroyed a trash can in the school’s parking lot.

According to the incident details, occupants of a vehicle parked on the north side of the lot attempted to place a box of fireworks into a trash receptacle next to the school building. When the box would not fit inside the container, they placed it on top instead and then left the scene.

Minutes later, the fireworks ignited and erupted into flames, destroying the trash can. An unknown person then moved the damaged trash receptacle away from the school building and drove away.

The Pinehurst Police Department is seeking information about the vehicle involved and the individuals present during the incident. Anyone with details about the incident is encouraged to contact the department at 208-556-1114, extension 1.
